# Events & Tasks

> Event types, statuses, tasks, and linking surveys to a project's timeline.

## 1. Event types

When adding an event, you choose its type:

| Type                      | Description                                                     |
| ------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Survey** | A survey linked to this project. |
| **Workshop** | An interactive session with participants and capacity tracking. |
| **Action / Custom event** | E.g. a meeting, or any other type of activity. |

For each event, you set fields such as: title, description, dates, duration, location, online link, capacity, and linked files.

## 2. Statuses

| Status          | Meaning                              |
| --------------- | ------------------------------------ |
| **Planned**     | Scheduled with a date.               |
| **In progress** | The event is currently taking place. |
| **Completed** | The event has finished. |
| **Unscheduled** | No date assigned yet. |

## 3. Tasks vs. events

<Note>
  Tasks are to-do items **within** an event. Only events appear on the project calendar and timeline — tasks do not.
</Note>

Use tasks for the smaller to-dos inside an event (e.g. "send reminder email", "book the room") so the project timeline itself stays focused on the milestones that matter.

## 4. Linking surveys

For an event of type **Survey**, you create a new survey or link an existing one. This lets you correlate surveys directly with the milestones on the project timeline — see the [Creating a Survey guide](/product/survey-creation).

## Recommended workflow

1. **Add events** for each milestone (survey, workshop, action) and give them a status.
2. **Link surveys to the relevant events** so you see the engagement and the measurement moments together.
3. **Use tasks** for the smaller to-dos within an event — they keep the timeline clean.
